The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of forcefully inserting itself into government in Rivers state. This accusation came in response to APC’s claims against Rivers state governor, Sim Fubara for allegedly disobeying Nigeria’s constitution and denying the existence of the state legislature, which they deemed as an impeachable offense.
PDP’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, criticized APC for attempting to manipulate the Constitution and for futilely trying to subvert the rules governing the vacation of seats by former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected from PDP to APC.
The PDP warned APC to refrain from attempting to seize power in Rivers State, emphasizing that the quorum of the House of Assembly will be determined based on the remaining lawmakers until bye-elections fill the vacancies left by defected members. Ologunagba emphasized that the former lawmakers had no legal grounds to retain their seats after switching parties, as clarified by the Constitution.
The PDP reiterated that APC’s efforts to usurp power in Rivers State will fail as they urge the opposition party to abide by the laws and respect democratic processes.
