The recent attack on police officers in Potocari was not related to threats against the cemetery, as initially reported. The attack happened outside the Memorial Center premises during a routine patrol, with the perpetrator being an intoxicated man who was stopped by the police for a check. The incident occurred amidst false reports by some media outlets about an alleged plan by Bosniak organizations to damage graves in Potocari and blame Serbs.
Vice President of Republika Srpska, Camil Durakovic, clarified that the attack was not connected to the Memorial Center area but was a result of the man’s behavior towards the officers. Despite the increased security measures in Potocari following the false reports, Easter passed without incidents. The man responsible for the attack, a Serbian national living in Belgrade, was arrested by the Police Administration Zvornik.
The incident highlighted the importance of accurate reporting, as media outlets focused on Durakovic’s statement regarding the arrest and the threatening words uttered by the perpetrator. It serves as a reminder of the consequences of spreading misinformation and the need for responsible journalism.
