AJ&K Clashes Leave One Police Official Dead, Over 90 Injured
The recent violent clashes in Azad Jammu and Kashmir between police and activists of a rights movement have led to the death of a police official and left more than 90 individuals injured. The clashes occurred amidst a wheel-jam and shutter-down strike called by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
The JAAC, representing traders seeking various rights, had planned a rally towards Muzaffarabad. Police arrested activists triggering clashes earlier in the week. The strike and clashes escalated on Friday and Saturday, leading to injuries and arrests.
Despite government claims of acceptance of demands and negotiations, the situation remains tense. Various political leaders have expressed concerns over the violence and urged for peaceful resolutions and dialogue. Former president Arif Alvi and PTI leaders have condemned the violence and called for immediate attention to the situation.
The video footage of clashes between police and protesters circulating online has further escalated concerns about the situation in AJ&K.
