Morocco and US Join Forces to Combat Human Trafficking

Morocco has made significant progress in the fight against human trafficking, with a minimum of 474 victims identified and more than 720 individuals apprehended for their involvement in these criminal activities. In collaboration with the United States, Morocco has unveiled a new $2.5 million grant to the International Organization for Migration to enhance efforts in combating this scourge.

The US Ambassador to Morocco, Puneet Talwar, emphasized the importance of partnerships in combating human trafficking, supporting victims, and implementing preventive measures. He commended Morocco for its national strategy and mechanisms aimed at reducing and combating human trafficking, including the recent establishment of a government assistance center for victims.

UN Resident Coordinator in Morocco, Nathalie Fustier, highlighted the global impact of human trafficking and the essential need for protecting vulnerable groups through international cooperation. She lauded Morocco’s commitment to combatting this crime, as evidenced by the identification of victims and the launch of a national strategy.

The collaboration between Morocco and the US aims to establish reception and accommodation centers for victims, in line with the national plan to combat human trafficking, and enhance international judicial cooperation with African countries. With ongoing efforts and partnerships, Morocco continues its fight against human trafficking and sets an example for global action.
