US airman’s family challenges sheriff’s version of Florida killing

The tragic death of Senior Airman Roger Fortson at the hands of deputies in Florida has sparked outrage and calls for justice from his family and civil rights attorney Ben Crump. Contrary to the authorities’ narrative, the family insists that Fortson was not aware the deputies were breaking into his apartment when he reached for his legally owned firearm in self-defense.

Fortson’s mother tearfully presented a portrait of her son at a news conference, expressing disbelief at the brutality of his death. Body-camera footage released later by the sheriff’s office sparked further controversy, with Crump denouncing the shooting as unjustifiable.

A powerful statement was made by Crump as he emphasized Fortson’s innocence and the need for accountability in law enforcement. The family demands justice for Fortson, a dedicated US air force airman who was fulfilling his dream before his tragic and untimely demise.

The unfortunate incident echoes similar cases of police brutality and mistaken identity, underscoring the need for accountability and reform within the law enforcement system. As the investigation unfolds, the family and their legal representatives remain steadfast in their quest for transparency and justice in remembrance of Roger Fortson.
