Four power generation companies in Aden are urging the Saudi-led coalition government to settle their outstanding financial dues for the past three years. SABSON, Al-Ahram, Al-Saeed Group, and Al-Elyan Energy have sent a letter to the Minister of Electricity, Mannaa Yaselem bin Yamin, threatening to shut down stations by noon on May 20th if payments are not made.
The companies are demanding payment for the period from April 2021 to March 2024, with pending dues at the Ministry of Finance. They have also requested the Ministry of Electricity to sign expired contracts within two weeks.
The deteriorating electricity sector in Aden, exacerbated by economic crises, has led to widespread discontent. The power generation companies hold the General Electricity Corporation responsible for any disruptions.
