In a fiery speech at a campaign rally in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi called for ‘my father is a traitor’ to be written on the forehead of Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shrikant is the current MP and Shiv Sena candidate from Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency.
Chaturvedi referenced the iconic 1975 film Deewar, where ‘mera baap chor hai’ (my father is a thief) is written on the son’s hand, suggesting a similar fate for Shrikant Shinde. Eknath Shinde’s alliance with BJP led to the split in Shiv Sena and his rise to the position of Chief Minister.
Responding to the statement, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sheetal Mhatre accused Chaturvedi of making such remarks due to her failed attempt to contest the Mumbai North West constituency. Mhatre also suggested that Chaturvedi is lobbying for another term in the Rajya Sabha.
