The Historic Victory Over Fascism: Honoring the Heroes of Azerbaijan

May 9 marks the 79th anniversary of the Victory over fascism, a significant moment in history that Azerbaijan commemorates with pride. President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva paid tribute to Major General Hazi Aslanov, a hero of the Soviet Union, and all Azerbaijani soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the war.

Azerbaijan’s contribution to the Victory was remarkable, with 600,000 sons and daughters joining the frontline, 300,000 sacrificing their lives, and over 130 recognized as Heroes of the Soviet Union. The Azerbaijani divisions fought bravely from the Caucasus to Berlin, and the country’s oil industry played a crucial role in supplying fuel to the Soviet army.

President Aliyev continues to prioritize the well-being of war veterans, providing financial assistance to honor their service. The Victory over fascism in the 1941-1945 war is celebrated with pride, especially following the recent Patriotic War that restored Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

As Azerbaijan remembers its fallen heroes, the spirit of resilience and bravery of its people lives on, symbolizing the country’s unwavering commitment to upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
