A new depot has opened at the Memorial Center in Potocari to respectfully store the remains, personal items, and clothing of Srebrenica genocide victims who remain unidentified. This depot serves as a place for remembrance, reflection, and defiance against denial. Munira Subasic, president of the Association Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves, expressed the importance of this depot as it holds the bones of victims, ensuring that mothers will always have a place to honor their lost children.
Emir Suljagic, director of the Memorial Center, emphasized the thirty-year search for bodies and the collaborative effort it took to establish the depot. Almasa Salihovic, spokesperson for the Memorial Center, highlighted the partnership with the International Commission on Missing Persons that led to the realization of this project in 2024 through the support of the USAID’s “PRO-Future” Project.
The depot stands as a beacon of truth and remembrance, aiming to prevent future genocides and preserve the memory of those lost in the Srebrenica genocide. This initiative represents a significant step in the fight for truth, justice, and dignity, combatting genocide denial and honoring the victims with the respect and dignity they deserve.
