The US man convicted of murdering his five-year-old daughter Harmony Montgomery has been sentenced to 45 years to life in prison in a case that sparked an investigation into the child protective services system and strained relations between two states.
Adam Montgomery was found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2019 death of Harmony. He was also convicted of other charges like assault, witness tampering, and abuse of a corpse.
The sentencing adds up to a minimum of 56 years in prison. Harmony, who faced a troubled childhood, cycled through foster care and into Montgomery’s custody, a decision now under scrutiny.
In a heartbreaking turn, Harmony’s remains have yet to be found. Her mother, Crystal Sorey, has declared her legally dead.
During the sentencing, emotional statements were made by Harmony’s family, expressing love and loss for the young girl. The defendant remained silent and maintained his innocence on the murder charge.
