The former President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, took to social media to extend his wishes for Victory and Peace Day. In a brief message, he simply wrote, “Happy May 9.”
For many years, May 9 had been a day of triple celebration for Armenians. It marked the victory of the Soviet people in the Second World War, the creation of the Artsakh Defense Army, and the liberation of Artsakh’s Shushi city in 1992. However, the recent 44-day Artsakh war in 2020 resulted in the loss of Shushi, bringing about a painful defeat for Armenians.
Despite the challenges and setbacks faced by the Armenian people, Kocharyan’s message of unity and hope on this significant day serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of the nation.
