EC Orders Repolling in Betul, Madhya Pradesh After EVMs Damaged in Fire Incident
The Election Commission (EC) has ordered repolling at four booths in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul Lok Sabha seat on May 10 due to damage caused to electronic voting machines (EVMs) in a fire incident. The EVMs were being transported after polling when a bus caught fire near Gola village, resulting in the damage of four voting machines. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
Following a report from the district administration, the EC decided to conduct re-election at the affected polling stations under the Multai assembly segment. The repolling is scheduled for May 10, and the booths include Government Integrated High School at Rajapur and Raiyat, as well as Government Primary School at Kunda and Chikhlimal.
The fire was caused by a spark in the bus, leading to the destruction of the vehicle and the EVMs inside. Despite the setback, an impressive 72.65% voter turnout was recorded in Betul during the recent Lok Sabha elections. Betul was among the nine seats in Madhya Pradesh that went to polls in the third phase.
