Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken a major step towards improving technical and vocational education in Pakistan. He has ordered the establishment of the Pakistan Skill Company and Pakistan Skill Development Fund to provide better employment opportunities for the country’s workers abroad. During a high-level meeting, Shehbaz emphasized the need for reforms within the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, Human Resource Development, and National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).
The prime minister highlighted the importance of enhancing NAVTTC to provide world-class technical and vocational training, ensuring internationally recognized certifications in all fields. He stressed the cooperation between federal institutions and the provinces to elevate Pakistan’s technical manpower quality and human resource development.
Additionally, Shehbaz called for the establishment of a coordinated database of Pakistani workers and reforms in the licensing regime for companies employing skilled Pakistanis abroad. He underlined the importance of meritocracy and transparency in the posting of community welfare attaches in Pakistani missions abroad.
NAVTTC aims to provide vocational and technical training to 60,000 people in 2024, with the number rising to 0.6 million in the next three years. The exchange of information on employment opportunities and skills from foreign countries is also being facilitated.
