Ethiopia’s coffee exports have generated $835 million in revenue in the last nine months, with 174,596 tons of coffee exported. The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) highlighted the growth of new markets for Ethiopian coffee, including China, the United Arab Emirates, and Sudan.
Ethiopia, known as the birthplace of Arabica coffee, is a major player in Africa’s coffee industry, boasting high-quality and sought-after coffee varieties. However, experts point out the need for value addition in the sector to maximize the country’s potential.
In the previous fiscal year, Ethiopia earned $1.3 billion from coffee exports, seeing a slight decline from the record-high revenue of $1.4 billion in the previous year. Despite challenges, Ethiopia’s coffee sector remains crucial to the country’s economy and global coffee trade.
