Muscat – According to a recent report by the Environment Authority (EA), over 923,000 invasive birds have been successfully eliminated across four governorates of Oman. The main committee for combating invasive birds, led by Dr Abdullah al Amri, convened to review the progress of the campaign and plan for the future.
The meeting emphasized the importance of implementing effective measures to protect the environment and preserve biodiversity. Significant achievements have been made in controlling invasive bird populations in South Batinah, Dhofar, and Muscat governorates, with tailored mechanisms proving successful in targeting specific bird species.
Efforts to control invasive bird populations not only restore ecological balance but also contribute to community awareness and involvement. By engaging Omani citizens in combating the spread of invasive bird species, the campaign promotes environmental stewardship.
The committee highlighted the detrimental effects of invasive birds on the ecosystem and emphasized the necessity of controlling their populations to maintain ecological equilibrium and protect Oman’s biodiversity.
