ISPR DG Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif Calls for PTI Apology and Dialogue for Constructive Politics
Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif made a significant statement on Tuesday, stating that any dialogue with the PTI could only occur if the party “earnestly apologizes in front of the nation”, commits to adopting “constructive politics”, and abandons the “politics of anarchy”. The remarks came during a press conference in Rawalpindi, just two days before the anniversary of the military installations attack last year following PTI founder Imran Khan’s arrest, which triggered a series of events against him and his party.
During the Q&A session, Gen. Sharif emphasized that for any dialogue to take place, the PTI must acknowledge its actions, including causing rifts between the army and the people, insulting martyrs, and spreading propaganda. He stressed the need for the PTI to embrace a more positive form of politics and refrain from hate-filled tactics.
Addressing the events of May 9, Gen. Sharif highlighted the importance of justice and accountability. He emphasized that perpetrators of the attacks on military installations must be brought to justice in accordance with the law, to maintain trust in Pakistan’s justice system.
Furthermore, Gen. Sharif underscored the need for a judicial commission to investigate various incidents, including the 2014 sit-in, attacks on Parliament, and other acts of violence aimed at destabilizing the state. He called for a thorough investigation into the funding sources and goals of such campaigns.
Threats from Afghanistan and TTP
Gen. Sharif also addressed the recent attacks on Chinese engineers in Pakistan, stating that the plot was orchestrated from Afghanistan. He condemned the heinous acts of terrorism and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. He mentioned the ongoing challenges posed by TTP terrorists operating from Afghan soil and emphasized the need for concrete actions to combat terrorism.
Despite repeated efforts to address the issue with Afghan authorities, Gen. Sharif highlighted the continued attacks by TTP terrorists from across the border. He stressed Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terror networks and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
Challenges from India and Global Support for Palestine
Turning to regional challenges, Gen. Sharif mentioned the multiple threats from India and the need to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty against any aggression. He also highlighted Pakistan’s strong support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the country’s commitment to advocating for viable solutions and supporting the Palestinian people.
Addressing the repatriation of illegal Afghan nationals, Gen. Sharif stated that the government’s decision was aimed at safeguarding Pakistan’s economy and maintaining law and order. He noted that while a significant number of illegal Afghans have been repatriated, efforts are ongoing to address the remaining individuals living in the country illegally.
The press briefing covered a wide range of issues, from internal challenges to regional threats, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to peace, justice, and national security.
