Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deterring external interference in complying with the terms of a natural gas import contract with Iran.
Speaking at a press conference, Dar emphasized that Pakistan, as a sovereign nation, prioritizes making decisions that serve its energy needs and international obligations.
When questioned about Pakistan’s actions regarding the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, Dar highlighted the country’s recent approval to start constructing an 80-kilometer pipeline from Iran’s border to Gwadar, despite objections from the United States.
The US, maintaining sanctions on Iran, expressed disapproval of Pakistan’s move. However, Pakistani officials asserted that no sanctions waiver is required for the gas trade project.
Dar stated that Pakistan’s decisions are based on national interests and not influenced by foreign dictation. The complexity of the gas pipeline project underscores Pakistan’s commitment to acting in its best interest.
