Jordan Takes Step Towards Green Ammonia and Hydrogen Production

In a recent ceremony at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jordanian Green Ammonia and Hynfra presented the initial technical and economic feasibility studies for a green ammonia and green hydrogen production plant. This presentation was made to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry, Amani Al-Azzam.

Minister Kharabsheh highlighted the importance of attracting quality investments in various sectors as part of the Economic Modernization Vision. These investments not only strengthen the Kingdom’s economic position but also help in reducing high unemployment rates. Under the directives of His Majesty the King and the Crown Prince, the Ministry is fully supporting investors in the energy and mining sector to promote economic development and encourage investment in renewable and green energy.

Wael Suleiman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jordanian Green Ammonia, expressed gratitude to the Jordanian government for their support and efforts in accelerating the submission of the feasibility studies within the agreed timeframe. Pawel Jarczewski, Deputy CEO of Hynfra, provided a comprehensive presentation on the project’s stages and explained the technology for producing green ammonia and hydrogen using desalinated seawater and renewable energy.

The project, estimated to cost $1.6 billion, is the first of its kind in Jordan and the region. It is expected to create over 8,000 direct job opportunities during the construction phase and contribute significantly to the sustainable economic development of the Aqaba region and the Kingdom as a whole.

This project marks a significant step towards Jordan’s entry into sectors utilizing green ammonia and green hydrogen, paving the way for future quality investments and economic growth.
