Tragedy struck Unguwan Sarkin Noma community in Katsina State as daredevil terrorists unleashed terror, leaving behind a trail of death and destruction. At least 24 people lost their lives, and many others were injured in the brutal attack that took place on a fateful Friday evening.
The heart-wrenching incident unfolded when the terrorists, armed to the teeth with automatic weapons, descended on the unsuspecting community on motorcycles. Prior to their brutal assault, the terrorists had been lurking on the outskirts of the community, waiting for the opportune moment to strike.
Despite efforts by some vigilant community members to alert the authorities about the impending danger, help failed to arrive in time. Farouk Hayatu, the Chairman of the council area, confirmed the tragic event, revealing that the security agencies were unable to respond despite his frantic attempts to reach out to them.
In the aftermath of the attack, 23 lives were lost, with one additional victim succumbing to injuries while receiving medical treatment. The community was left reeling with several other individuals sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
This horrific incident comes on the heels of another harrowing attack three months ago when terrorists targeted a wedding convoy in the same council area. The brazen attack claimed the lives of three individuals and led to the abduction of the bride and over 50 wedding guests. Fortunately, a recent joint operation by the military and paramilitary forces resulted in the rescue of most of the abducted individuals.
