A recent study released by Uruguay XXI Institute in Montevideo has revealed a remarkable 27% growth in the country’s exports in April compared to the previous year. This surge is primarily driven by exports of soybeans, beef, live cattle, and cellulose, showcasing a promising start to 2024 with a 5% overall increase in the first third of the year.
This growth marks the highest year-on-year increase in the past 12 months, bouncing back from a decline in March 2024. Despite decreases in dairy products and rice shipments, total exports, including duty-free zones, generated an impressive US$ 1.097 billion in revenue.
Major export destinations for Uruguay include Brazil, China, the United States, and the European Union, with Brazil leading the pack accounting for a significant portion of the country’s sales. However, China saw a 22% decrease in imports from Uruguay compared to the previous year.
Cellulose and beef were standout performers in April, with cellulose sales reaching US$ 210 million and beef exports totaling US$ 172 million. Soybean exports also saw a significant increase, while live cattle exports recorded a whopping 740% growth.
Despite challenges in pricing and external factors, Uruguay XXI remains committed to promoting the country as an ideal investment destination and strengthening the export capacity of Uruguayan companies.
