On Wednesday, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MHUP) joined hands with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development to sign 62 usufruct contracts worth over RO12.5mn. These contracts are designed to enhance both the agricultural and industrial sectors in Oman.
H E Hamad bin Ali al Nazwani, Undersecretary for Housing in MHUP, oversaw the signing of the agreements in the presence of H E Yaqoub bin Khalfan al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Fisheries in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR).
The signed contracts include ventures in agriculture, with a focus on food security and growth in the agricultural sector. These projects span across various regions in Oman, such as Dakhliyah, Dhofar, South Batinah, Buraimi, and Dhahirah.
One of the highlights is the support for wheat cultivation in the Al Najd area of Dhofar through 28 usufruct contracts, totaling over 6,400 acres and worth RO5.6mn. Additionally, contracts with SMEs in South Batinah and Dakhliyah for industrial and commercial projects were also finalized.
Ahmed bin Saud al Kamyani, Director General of Land at MHUP, emphasized the importance of these agreements in maximizing returns on government land, promoting financial sustainability, and creating a favorable investment climate. Not only do they support the economy, but they also contribute to the development of various governorates in Oman.
Kamyani also highlighted the projects stemming from the Food Security Laboratory, aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in wheat production and supporting agricultural associations. Oversight for contract implementation is ensured through collaborative efforts with MAFWR, with joint teams monitoring project progress for the initial two years.
These 62 usufruct contracts mark a significant step towards strengthening Oman’s agricultural and industrial sectors, showcasing the government’s commitment to driving growth and sustainability in the country.
