10 killed in bomb blast at IDP camp in Eastern DR Congo

Reports from local sources indicate that a tragic incident unfolded on Friday morning at a camp for displaced individuals near Goma, the provincial capital of North Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Witnesses at the Mugunga camp for internally displaced persons reported the detonation of multiple bombs, resulting in the loss of at least 10 lives and several injuries.

Medical personnel at Bethesda CBCA Ndosho hospital in Goma confirmed that 17 individuals, including children, were brought in for treatment following the attack. The hospital is supported by a surgical team from the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Although the provincial government of North Kivu has not officially disclosed casualty figures, it has pointed fingers at the M23 rebels as the perpetrators of this heinous act.

The North Kivu region has been grappling with escalating tensions between the Congolese army and the M23 movement, with the rebels reportedly gaining control over territories in the province in recent weeks.
